In 2016, Barack Obama, America's first Black president was completing his second term and Donald Trump became elected as the next president. It was also the year that CUNY TV launched the show Black America. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this award-winning show that profiles Black activists, academics, business leaders, sports figures, elected officials, artists, and writers, Carol Jenkins, noted journalist, activist, author, and host of the show, moderates a special live event looking back at the last decade, taking the current temperature and asking how has the state of affairs of Black America changed? Join us for an insightful conversation with leaders from the community.
Featuring Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, professor at Columbia Law School and UCLA School of Law, executive director of the African American Policy Forum, and author of a new memoir, Backtalker; Trymaine Lee, a Pulitzer- and Emmy-winning journalist, MSNBC contributor, and author of the new book A Thousand Ways to Die; Nell Irvin Painter, historian, author, and visual artist, professor emerita at Princeton University, and author of The History of White People and Frederick Joseph, bestselling author whose work spans poetry, nonfiction, children’s literature, and young adult fiction, and a noted philanthropist.
