PRESS RELEASE:

On November 5th, 2026, at the Strand theater, the Tri-Ad Veterans League will hold a press conference honoring some of Boston's African American Military Veteran Leaders. The "Beyond the Uniform Initiative" recognizes Veterans who served in the US military and who advocate in varied roles within their communities. The history of advocacy in Boston and its importance dates back as far as I can recall back to my getting help from the Veterans Benefits Clearing House (VBC), led by Ralph Cooper and Minister Ernest Branch, with a staunch Board of Directors that included former combat Marine Ernest Wahington, Jr., to name a few.
The leadership of the late Ralph F. The leadership of the late Ralph F. Browne was pivotal for Veterans throughout the City of Boston, leaving his widow, Wilma Browne, involved as a lead member of the Veterans and Friends Committee. Dr. Roger Harris, a well-known educator and sought-after international speaker, also founded the Renaissance Charter School, which introduced structural change in learning where students earned as the teachers did. . The Post Commander at the American Legion Post 16 is Mary Tuitt, a strong leader and advocate. Ron Armstead became involved in educating politicians, creating a strong connection with the late Congressman Charles Rangel and establishing the Congressional Black Caucus Brain Trust over twenty years ago. The aforementioned and other Veterans helped in building the foundation for strategic planning for stronger voices for equity with mental health treatment and housing.realizing
Veterans are an overlooked and underused community resource. The four Abdel Khallaq brothers living in Boston all served in the US Military and returned to involve themselves as community developers and investors. The upcoming event will include the art exhibit "Unsung Heroes," commissioned from Artist for Humanity, an after-school youth art program, to help educate about the history of patriotism and sacrifice.
