Discover Sinfonia Smith Square: Explore Baroque architecture, fascinating history, and enjoy a concert in this historic London landmark.About this Event
Join us for a visit to Sinfonia Smith Square, one of London’s most remarkable historic buildings, renowned for its beautiful Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage.
Designed by Thomas Archer and originally built as a church in the 18th century, Sinfonia Smith Square has played a part in many significant moments in history, including the funeral of suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst and the wedding of Randolph Churchill, son of Sir Winston Churchill.
The church was badly damaged by a bomb during an air raid in 1941 and remained an open-air ruin for almost 20 years. Saved from demolition, it was restored in the late 1960s and transformed into the much-loved cultural landmark we know today.
During our visit, we will explore the building’s fascinating history, admire its distinctive architectural features and discover how it evolved from a place of worship into one of London’s leading concert venues.
Following the tour and concert, we will enjoy tea and cake in the atmospheric Crypt Café, with it's stone-vaulted ceilings and the building’s rich historic character.
Whether you are passionate about history, architecture and music, or simply enjoy discovering London’s hidden gems, this promises to be a fascinating and enjoyable experience.
