*Begin Your Novel*: a one day workshop, The Subscription Rooms, Saturday 14th November.
Have you got a novel idea that won’t leave you alone, but no clear sense of where to begin?
This relaxed, practical workshop is for anyone who has always wanted to write a novel and hasn’t started yet, or has started and stalled. You don’t need experience, a finished plan, or a big block of free time. You just need the idea, or even the beginnings of one.
In three hours, you will:
Turn a vague idea into a clear starting point: a premise, a character with something at stake, and an opening image
Learn how novels actually get written, including how to plan without over-planning, build a routine that fits your life, and cope with a first draft that feels messy (it always does)
Write the first page of your novel and share it in a warm, supportive setting, with feedback that is encouraging and useful
Leave with a take-home workbook and a clear idea of what to do next
Who it’s for: Aspiring and first-time novelists, anyone returning to writing after a long break, and anyone who has felt held back by self-doubt or writer’s block. All genres are welcome.
About your tutor: Eleanor Wasserberg is the author of the novels Foxlowe and The Light at the End of the Day. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and has taught creative writing for over a decade. She also works as a creative mentor, supporting debut novelists through the confidence wobbles and blank pages that come with writing a first book.
