About this Event
Come and join Liz Taylor for a workshop where you'll create an imaginative, slow stitched piece using fabrics from a treasure trove of Lewis & Wood remnants.
Slow stitch has nothing to do with the speed at which you sew! It is influenced by the international slow movement which aims for a more intentional approach to activities, connecting with the materials and processes to add meaning and enjoyment to the moment.
Slow stitch can be therapeutic in our busy lives with the bonus of creating art works that are both meaningful and joyous. In this session you will learn the principles of slow stitching and how to produce your own stitched pieces by using traditional embroidery techniques in an unconventional way.
Liz will demonstrate how you can take even the smallest of cloth samples and by cutting, shaping together and unleashing your imagination, produce a piece of stitched art that can be framed or put to decorative use as a card front or panel on a bag.
You'll experiment with using the embroidery stitches along with techniques such as appliqué, to create an interesting piece to immerse yourself in. While you’ll be shown a variety of stitches, even if you can only do running stitch the possibilities are endless.
Materials will be supplied on the day so all you have to bring is your imagination; however, there’ll be plenty of help on hand if you need some ideas.
Liz Taylor is a textile artist specialising in Slow Stitch techniques and offers a range of workshops in the local area.
