Welcome to the Wellderness' survival series - water, shelter, fireJoin us in the Wellderness Woods this autumn, and learn some skills to help you stay well in the wilderness.
In September, we'll source water, make shelter and safely create fire. We'll consider cuisine with foraging skills and campfire cooking in mid-October. Then, with the first hints of winter creeping in, we'll meet in late November for map reading, orienteering and a 5k hike around the woods.
You can choose any individual session (priced at £15 each) or join us for all three. There's a 20% discount for booking all three dates in advance.
These sessions are strictly for over-16-year olds. Anyone below 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Water, shelter, fire
On Saturday, 19th of September, you'll learn the essentials of wilderness survival.
Sourcing water that's safe to drink is vital. Whether that's through a natural spring or by purifying water from a stream, your survival in the wild depends on securing a safe and drinkable supply. We'll share the know-how to make this happen.
With fluids found, shelter is the next most important step. Being able to protect yourself from the elements is critical to staying well in the wilderness, and we'll show you how to build a shelter that is safe, simple and secure.
Finally, we come to heat. Building and starting a fire is a priceless skill when it comes to surviving in the wild. With the prospect of increasingly dry summers, it's evermore important to know how to keep your campfire safe - and to understand the risks associated with wildfires.
Learn how to stay well in the wilderness, alongside an open, friendly community, while absorbing all that wonderful woodland goodness.
Only available via Eventbrite, tickets cost £15 per person per session, with 20% discount if you buy tickets for all three events up front. Please note, this discount is only available when purchasing September tickets.
In the Wellderness Woods, the tracks are bumpy and not easy to access for those with mobility issues. If you're unsure whether it's suitable for you, please get in touch before booking.
Car parking is limited, so please car share where possible. We'll send you the precise location details ahead of the session.
We haven't yet figured out how best to get there on public transport. It is doable - as we discovered from some intrepid Wellderfolk who braved the buses and trains for our first session. From what we know, it's not straightforward.
