About this Event
Baton 101: Safe & Effective Baton Use is a practical, hands-on course for security professionals who have completed Responder Use of Force training and want to further develop their baton skills.
With roots in Kali, a Filipino martial art known for its emphasis on impact weapons, movement, angles and defensive techniques, the course uses structured drills and repetition to help participants become more comfortable and competent with the baton as a defensive tool.
The focus is not simply on learning techniques. Participants will develop their ability to move, create distance, protect themselves, recognize appropriate targets and make sound Use of Force decisions under pressure.
Training will include:
- Safe baton handling and deployment
- Fundamental Kali-based movement, angles and striking concepts
- Ready positions, footwork and maintaining distance
- Blocks, strikes and defensive applications
- Target selection and areas to avoid
- Baton retention and control
- Defending against edged and impact weapon threats
- Use of Force decision-making and articulation
- Practical partner drills and scenario-based exercises
- Post-incident responsibilities and reporting
This is a hands-on training course. Participants should come prepared to move, train and repeatedly practise the skills being taught.
