Join us for an evening of Balfolk dancing with live music from Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood.Balfolk brings together social folk dances from across France and beyond: from flowing mazurkas and waltzes to lively bourrées and Breton dances. It’s sociable, varied and open to everyone, whether you’re an experienced dancer or completely new to Balfolk.
Helen Gentile & Lewis Wood are one of the UK’s leading Balfolk duos, playing clarinet and fiddle in imaginative arrangements that provide plenty to listen to and to enjoy as a dancer on the floor.
Drawing on traditional tunes, contemporary Balfolk composers and their own music, their playing is rooted firmly in the European dance tradition while bringing plenty of their own character to it.
Their 2024 album Violet Sky was described by Songlines as “folk dance at its finest”.
New to Balfolk? We’ll start the evening with a friendly introductory workshop, so no previous experience is needed.
Come on your own or with friends – there’s no need to bring a partner.
Teas and coffees and water provided. Please do not bring alcohol into the venue.
