In the final event of the Wild Talks series, we will celebrate wildlife conservation wins and show there is real hope for the future
From tigers to tiny snails, discover how ZSL’s unique approach - uniting zoos, science and fieldwork - has brought species back from the edge of extinction. This lecture celebrates conservation wins and shows why, despite challenges, there is real hope for the future.
Throughout its 200-year history, ZSL has made significant advances to our understanding of animals. The early focus was on advancing zoological knowledge, with formal descriptions of species, and best practice in wild animal management and care, but more recently we have focused on understanding the threats to wildlife, and the urgent need to conserve it.
Speakers at this event will share stories of bringing species back from the edge of extinction, and how the relationship between people and wildlife both allowed us to almost lose these animals, and enables us to bring them back. Despite the myriad challenges we face when considering species rescue, translocation, and reintroduction, we know that conservation works.
This event will celebrate conservation success stories that ZSL has been at the heart of, such as sihek, scimitar horned oryx, and partula snails, showing how our science-based, evidence-informed interventions can save species, and how this work gives us genuine hope for the next 200 years.
