Join us for a special screening of Babylon as part of the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture.
Directed by Franco Rosso, Babylon is a landmark British drama that captures the energy, creativity, and challenges of London's reggae sound system culture at the dawn of the 1980s. Starring Brinsley Forde, the film follows Blue, a talented young DJ whose passion for music is tested as he confronts racism, discrimination, and the pressures of everyday life while preparing his sound system for a major clash.
Driven by an iconic reggae soundtrack and an authentic portrayal of Black British life, the film explores themes of identity, resilience, community, and the power of music as a form of expression and resistance. Widely regarded as one of the defining works of Black British cinema, Babylon remains as powerful and relevant today as when it was first released.
Following the screening, guests are invited to stay for an informal Film + Conversation session, offering the opportunity to reflect on the film's themes, share perspectives, and explore its lasting cultural significance.
This event forms part of Hidden Beach's Film + Conversation Night series, celebrating films that inspire conversation, creativity, and cultural understanding.
