About this Event
In this talk, Dr Lukasz Olejnik will present IO Factory, a research system he designed to study autonomous influence campaigns. Drawing on experiments involving tens of thousands of simulated users, he will examine how agents coordinate their activities, pursue specified changes in audience attitudes, and use observations and measurements in subsequent decisions. He will explain what the experiments establish about autonomous campaign behaviour and effects within the simulated environment, and what remains uncertain about their implications outside it.
Relating these findings to documented uses of AI in information operations and wider research, he will discuss the consequences for information warfare, public institutions and national security, particularly in open societies. The talk will also consider a further question: if AI can conduct an operation once given an objective, what happens when systems also begin selecting objectives and initiating campaigns themselves?
