Hamilton Playbox proudly presentsTHE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME
adapted by Simon Stephens
based on the novel by Mark Haddon
directed by Mel Martin-Booker
at Riverlea Theatre
As The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is an ensemble-driven production, we are looking not only at individual performances but also at how performers collaborate, communicate, and contribute to creating the world of the play.
The goal is to assemble a group of performers who will work together to tell Christopher's story with imagination, generosity and authenticity.
GROUP AUDITION WORKSHOP:
Friday, Nov 27
7-10pm
This production will be highly physical and ensemble driven. The group audition workshop will include movement, group devising activities, script work and scene readings. No previous movement or dance experience is required, just a willingness to participate, explore ideas and work as part of an ensemble.
CALLBACKS:
Saturday, Nov 28
4-7pm
From the audition workshop, some performers will be asked to attend a callback workshop for the creative team to explore specific casting combinations, chemistry between actors, and suitability for particular roles. Not every role will require a callback, and attending callbacks does not automatically guarantee a role Likewise, not attending callbacks does not remove anyone from consideration.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the collaborative nature of this production, performers should be available for the full audition workshop wherever possible, as much of the assessment takes place during the group exercises rather than the script readings alone.
SEASON: April 03 - 17
REHEARSALS:
Sunday 1pm - 5pm (beginning January 24)
Monday 7.15pm - 9.30pm
Wednesday 7.15pm - 9.30pm
THE PLAY:
15-year-old Christopher stands beside his neighbor Mrs. Shears’ dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight, and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington the dog.
Christopher has an extraordinary brain and is exceptional at math, but he is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road; he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. But Christopher’s detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that turns his world upside-down.
