Featured Musicians: ATLYS String Quartet

Forget everything you think you know about a string quartet.

This Valentine’s Day weekend, Rendezvous Arts welcomes ATLYS, an all-female powerhouse quartet that has built an international following by taking four classical string instruments just about everywhere they can possibly go.

Classically trained but never confined by tradition, ATLYS moves effortlessly from folk and pop to film music, electronic dance music, and original works, sometimes bringing looping and other technology into the mix. Their music has been streamed more than 25 million times worldwide, and they have performed everywhere from intimate concert spaces to venues like Red Rocks and the Gorge Amphitheatre.

What makes this program especially fun is that every piece has been written or arranged specifically for ATLYS, or created by the quartet themselves. They’ll be our musical tour guides for the evening, sharing stories along the way as we travel from one sound world to the next.

Expect virtuosity, personality, familiar melodies in unexpected places, and four musicians who clearly love sharing this music with each other and with the people in the room.

Four strings. A whole musical universe. One very good reason to make Rendezvous part of your Valentine’s weekend.

Featured Artist: Glenn Hansen

Our featured visual artist for this program is Glenn Hansen, a photographer and educator whose work is grounded in careful observation and the experience of place.

Glenn’s career has spanned both film and digital photography, from years working alongside renowned photographer David Plowden to more than three decades teaching photography at the College of DuPage. His own work moves between urban landscapes, the edges of suburbia and rural America, and the expansive high plains of the West.

Whether working with a large-format camera or today’s digital tools, Glenn approaches photography with the same idea at its center: “Let me show you this.”

His images invite us to stop, look closely, and experience a place through someone else’s eyes, a fitting companion to ATLYS and their own invitation to hear familiar instruments in entirely new ways.
