At the King's Pleasure, Once MoreWorld renowned lutenist, Simon Martyn-Ellis, presents an intimate recital of music written for the renaissance lute and theorbo from 17th Century England and France. From John Dowland’s travels in Europe, including a stint at King Christian IV’s court in Denmark, and his eventual appointment to Queen Elizabeth in England, to works by Robert de Visée that represent the type of music played for his patron and employer, Louis XIV, this concert provides a Monarch’s worth of subtle and gentle entertainment.
Don't miss this chance to catch a core member of Lutruwita's own Van Diemen's Band stepping out solo once more and providing an entertaining and informative evening of music.
The instruments Simon will be playing in this program are a 7 course renaissance lute restored by Peter Biffin in Armidale NSW in 1994, and a theorbo made by Klaus Jacobsen in London in 2006.
