Excited to decarbonize? Want to learn more about how to do it? This highly interactive session will provide a hands-on introduction to the emerging practice of Strategic Decarbonization Planning, delivered in a dynamic, game-based format. First, it will introduce decarbonization fundamentals using core concepts from ASHRAE Standard 211 and the ASHRAE Guide to Strategic Decarbonization Planning. Then, in small groups, attendees will work together to develop a mock building decarbonization plan using information from an actual building. Each group will explore and evaluate strategies to reduce building GHG emissions while considering costs, trigger events, and other key contextual factors. Session attendees should come ready to engage with their peers and get to work!
This workshop was originally presented at the 2024 ASHRAE Building Decarbonization Conference, and has been shared with hundreds of building professionals across the U.S. since, including at the 2025 AEE World Conference, the 2026 ASHRAE Region V CRC, and the 2026 Greenbuild Conference.
