Arts in Wellness - Yoga at Deering

The Deering Estate curates a blend of cultural physical fitness classes that encourage focus on physical and mental health while also connecting to identity, culture and history. The Deering Estate collaborates with Yoga instructors, including members of the Artist-in-Residence program, successfully bridging the divide between the performative arts, such as music, dance, installation art and traditional physical fitness instruction.

The Deering Estate also collaborates with Open Door Yoga, whose yoga classes are offered in a serene environment in the greater Miami area. Their classes are always welcoming, whether new to yoga or a long-time practitioner, looking to unlock the door to awareness and growth.

This class invites participants to unwind in a beautiful outdoor setting. Enjoy a grounding yoga practice designed to help you slow down, breathe deeply, and move with awareness while surrounded by nature. Expect a gentle, mindful flow that supports releasing tension, stretching the body, and taking a moment to pause together in the peaceful Deering Estate landscape.

About the Instructor:
Michaela Schalk, Open Door Yoga Instructor: In a fast-moving world, yoga offers a moment to pause. Michaela was introduced to yoga by her best friend, and after many years of on-and-off practice, she found her place at a yoga studio in Coconut Grove. From Front desk to Manager to Teacher, it’s been quite the journey—and she’s still a student at heart.

Location: Class will meet at the Main Gate and will be held on the Deering Estate Front Lawn and Boat Basin. If weather is unsuitable, Yoga classes will be moved to the Deering Estate’s Visitor Center Building Breezeway.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your Event/Program start time. This program starts on-time as scheduled. Late arrivals will be considered a no-show and will not be permitted to enter or participate, and will not be refunded, transferred, or credited.

Deering Estate, located at 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Miami, is a 21st Century house museum, cultural and ecological field station, and a national landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, owned by the State of Florida and managed by Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department. Deering Estate is designated as one of seven Miami Dade County “Heritage Parks” which have a vital role in our community’s history, environment and in providing recreational and cultural experiences.
