About this Event
Presented in conjunction with Material Bodies: Identities in Clay, this artist conversation brings together exhibiting artists Aaron Becker, Gabriel Chalfin-Piney-González, Mirentxu Ganzarain, Suzanne Long, and Henry Tyson for a discussion about their individual practices and the broader ceramic landscape of the Midwest.
The conversation will be moderated by Chicago artist and curator Catherine Schwalbe, whose practice spans sculpture, installation, mixed media, found objects, site specific work, and social practice. Schwalbe maintains Haptic Studio and Residency, shares a clay studio at Ripple Studios, and teaches at Lillstreet Art Center.
The program offers an opportunity to hear directly from participating artists about their work, their relationship to clay, and the regional context surrounding contemporary ceramic practice.
Material Bodies: Identities in Clay is the second annual Midwest Ceramic Exhibition at Oliva Gallery. Juried and curated by Nancy Pirri and Lauralynn White, the exhibition brings together 19 artists from across the Midwest and considers the human form through contemporary ceramic practice.
