About this Event
Lara Hooper - About the Artist
My entire life I’ve had a love for the visual arts. That love led me to become an art educator to high school students for 27 years, and later to adults. My teaching experience, along with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master’s in Education, brings a wealth of knowledge to my artwork. I have lived in the foothills and metro Denver my entire life, and for the past eight years I’ve called Washington Park home, where I discovered the beauty and charm of the Denver parks.
Over the past few years, plein air painting has been an exhilarating adventure. I love capturing places such as Washington Park, the Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, as well as memories from travel to Hawaii and other beautiful outdoor places I’ve been. I hope to spark a memory, or a connection of joy, that my viewers have felt in these places themselves.
My recent works are mostly landscapes in traditional oils, painted with brushes and painting knives for an impasto effect. Oils give me a luminous quality and the mark making I love from the knife. It is these experiences and surprises that keep me painting with passion every day.
Come enjoy the art, the atmosphere, and one of Wash Park’s unique neighborhood gathering spots!
