About this Event

I am excited to welcome you to this daylong improvisation workshop in Glasgow's West End.

Come and join us for a day of creative discovery at The Art of Improvisation workshop. Playful and welcoming, this workshop aims to help you discover ease, imagination and presence in performance.

You'll be taught key exercises from Action Theater™, a physical improvisation training in movement, voice and language. A dynamic pathway for opening the body's imagination, Action Theater™ has been used by actors, dancers, musicians, poets and those who want to expand their creative potential. You will work with movement, voice and narrative, deepening awareness, expanding your palette of expression and encountering your imagination afresh.

This event is the first in a series of Saturday workshops.

The creative focus for November's workshop: LISTENING

Simple somatic exercises allow us to connect with body and breath, opening our awareness and refining our quality of attention. Working in ensemble, duets and solo, we will pay particular attention to the ways that listening can help us orient ourselves as the improvisation unfolds, helping us participate more deeply with the present. Drawing on composer Pauline Oliveros’ ideas of Deep Listening, we will ask if sound can act as a partner, drawing us into action, helping shape performative decisions? We will extend our listening outwards through the space, and inwards, to the flow of feeling states. We will consider the ways listening can become a well, deeply sustaining us in our movement and stillness, in our speaking and pauses.

Get ready to encounter your imagination afresh. I hope you can join us!
