About this Event

We’re kicking off spring with a debut that will take your breath away and maybe break your heart.

Show Me Where It Hurts by Claire Gleeson is a powerful and deeply moving novel that follows Rachel, a woman left to piece together her life after an unthinkable tragedy. As she tries to make sense of what happened — and how to keep going — Gleeson captures the quiet ache of grief and the fragile hope that can bloom in its wake.

Written by an Irish GP, Show Me Where It Hurts is a story about survival, recovery and love in its most devastating forms — perfectly timed for St. Patrick’s season as we spotlight an incredible Irish debut.

After our morning discussion, we’ll head to Flesh & Buns in Covent Garden because my god wasn't it incredible last time! Here is where Japanese izakaya culture meets London style. Expect shareable plates, inventive cocktails and a brunch that’s all about togetherness — because no one should face heartbreak (or bottomless brunch) alone.

See you at brunch! 🥂📚🥑

Show Me Where It Hurts by Claire Gleeson

How do you survive the unsurvivable?

Rachel lives with her husband Tom and their two children: it’s the ordinary family life she always thought she’d have. All of that changes in an instant – when Tom runs the family car off the road, seeking to end his own life, and take his wife and children with him. Rachel is left to pore over the wreckage to try and understand what happened – to find a way to go on living afterwards.

What emerges is a snapshot of what it’s like to live alongside someone who is suffering, how you keep yourself afloat when the person you love is drowning, and how you survive irreparable loss.

Impossible to turn away from, Show Me Where It Hurts is a compelling, heartbreaking and ultimately life-affirming story of recovery and unexpected hope.

If you’ve ever delved into Japanese culinary culture, chances are you’ve come across the term “izakaya.” This quintessential Japanese establishment seamlessly marries the warmth of camaraderie with the delights of a diverse menu.

But what exactly is an izakaya, and why are these restaurants so integral to Japan’s social fabric?

An izakaya is a traditional Japanese pub or tavern that is more than a mere dining establishment. Rooted in Japanese history, the term ‘izakaya’ is a fusion of ‘i’ (to stay) and ‘sakaya’ (sake shop), reflecting its historical origins as places where customers could enjoy sake and stay for a meal. Over time, the izakaya has evolved into a vibrant hub more than simply a place to eat; they are communal experiences, bringing people together in a celebration of food, drink and companionship.

Flesh & Buns Covent Garden is a sanctuary below the bustling streets of Seven Dials. Try out a new culinary experience at the best Japanese restaurant in Covent Garden. Leave London at the door, experience Japanese Izakaya hospitality, and taste the best sushi in Covent Garden.

The restaurant is in the heart of the Theatre District, a short walk from Covent Garden, Tottenham Court Road, Charing Cross, and Leicester Square stations.
