Rue Nouveau is a Minneapolis melodic rock band built around the songwriting of Gary Rue and Leslie Ball, delivering hook-filled songs, sharp lyrics, and rich vocal harmonies with echoes of Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, and Squeeze. Columbia recording artists in the mid-’80s, Rue Nouveau earned a devoted following and serious critical attention, with songs later recorded by Nick Lowe and Helen Reddy. Decades later, the band’s smart, powerful pop-rock still sounds vibrant, catchy, and unmistakably their own. See them live at The Hook for this special one night only concert!
--
Note: Elvis Costello reportedly helped facilitate Columbia’s “right of first refusal” on their 1985 sessions, and City Pages once wrote that Rue Nouveau was the band Costello checked out whenever he came through town.
