About this Event

The age was the Elizabethan; their morals were not ours; nor their poets; nor their climate; nor their vegetables even. Everything was different. The weather itself, the heat and cold of summer and winter, was, we may believe, of another temper altogether.  (Virginia Woolf, Orlando)

In her historical novel Orlando, Viriginia Woolf infused the changes in conventional wisdom about the weather into her explorations of human transformation. In particular, the weather itself seems to reflect the transcendent journey of an English Courtier, Orlando, who passes through time from the ages of Elizabeth I and Charles II, and beyond.

What might this courtier have listened to? What did those musicians think about the weather? How might music have depicted the Little Ice Age?

In a program of music of the English Renaissance and Baroque, Filament joins forces with A Golden Wire to guide audiences through an evening about the months, the seasons, and the nature of human adaptation.
