About this Event
Space is never neutral-
-the way our cities are planned, governed and experienced, from London's housing crisis and the privatisation of public space to the exclusion of communites through inaccessible design, reflects existing structures of power, privilege and inequality.
We invite students and young workers to an Alternative Practice panel discussion exploring the concept of spatial justice: the idea that where we live, work and move through the city shapes our access to opportunities, resources and wellbeing. Through discussions and case study examples, we'll examine how the built environment can challenge inequality and advocate for fairer, more inclusive, representative places.
What will we discuss?
- Access to housing, work and public space.
- Who benefits from urban development and who is excluded.
- Barriers to opportunity across different neighbourhoods.
- Creating accessible, inclusive spaces that welcome diverse communities.
- How events, buildings and public spaces can better meet different access needs.
Join us at Build Studios in Waterloo for good food, good drinks and great discussions.
Speakers include:
- Scar Barclay, Co-director - The DisOrdinary Architecture Project.
- Faris Luke, Secretary - The Lewisham People's Assembly
Our session will be chaired by Reishin Kunishima Watabe, architectural designer and activist.
