Join an Assistant Professor of Sociology for The Sociology of Self: Performing in Everyday Interactions, an engaging exploration of how we perform, persuade, and present ourselves in everyday life. From job interviews and first dates to meeting new people and navigating professional spaces, we're constantly making choices about how we want others to perceive us. This conversation will explore the sociology behind those interactions and why we adapt our behavior depending on who we're with, where we are, and what we're trying to accomplish.
What We'll Cover:
• The performance of everyday life - Explore why we naturally adjust how we act, speak, and present ourselves depending on the social situation we're in.
• How we perform to impress and convince - Examine the subtle ways we try to impress and influence, from first impressions to professional interactions and social situations.
• The sociology of self - Dive into how our identities are shaped not only by how we see ourselves, but also by the people, institutions, and social environments around us.

About The Speaker:
Dr. Aidé Hernández, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Sociology whose areas of expertise focus on the experiences of U.S. Latinos navigating institutions such as immigration and education. Dr. Hernández teaches a wide range of sociology courses, exploring questions from "What is Sociology?" to "Is everything about race?" She is passionate about making sociology accessible and engaging, bringing complex ideas about society, identity, and human behavior into conversations that connect with everyday life. Online, she creates short-form lectures that make sociology digestible, approachable, and fun.
