Grief is heavy, and that’s exactly why we are celebrating those we've lost. We invite you to join our Día de los Muertos community participation event, ADD YOUR LIGHT TO THE SKULL.
Who are you remembering this year?
Together, we will build a life-sized calavera (skull) piñata. You'll help layer the vibrant decorative paper to add your personal touches to the skull and then drop a secret remembrance one-line poem, blessing or memory to someone you miss, straight into the skull. Your words will become the literal heartbeat inside the sculpture.
Your words will stay safe inside the sculpture until our smash and release celebration the week of November 20. Who are you remembering this year? Bring their name to the museum on November 1.
The installation is co-created by two prominent figures in the Colorado arts community: writer, poet, and mind/body wellness guide Nancy Levenson and multidisciplinary visual artist and sculptor Cipriano Ortega.
When you join us at our workshop station, you aren't just looking at art—you are completing it. Come add your light to the skull.
