Abstract Still Life Workshop – Whimsical Florals in AcrylicStep into a relaxed and inspiring creative space and join us for our Abstract Still Life Workshop with artist Maggi McDonald - a beautiful painting experience where creativity, colour and fresh flowers come together.
In this hands-on acrylic painting workshop, you’ll create your own expressive floral artwork while learning how to interpret still life in a playful and abstract way.
You will begin by styling a simple still life vignette together using fresh flowers and beautiful vessels. You’ll learn how to thoughtfully arrange flowers and objects to create a visually balanced composition that can become a reference image for your artwork and future painting practice.
Once our vignette is set, we’ll explore how to translate what we see into an abstract floral painting on canvas. Rather than focusing on perfect detail, this workshop encourages you to loosen up, simplify shapes and capture the mood, movement and colour of your still life.
Working with acrylic paints, you’ll learn foundational painting techniques including:
• Basic colour mixing techniques
• Creating harmonious colour palettes
• Simplifying shapes for abstract composition
• Building layers and texture in acrylic paint
• Expressive brushwork and mark making
This abstract painting class is designed to feel calm, welcoming and creatively freeing. It’s perfect for complete beginners, as well as artists who would like to explore a more expressive approach to still life painting.
All materials are provided, and our friendly instructor will guide you step by step while still leaving plenty of room for your own artistic style to shine.
