Screening and Discussion: Canuto's Transformation (A Transformação de Canuto)
Join us for a special screening of the critically acclaimed Brazilian/Mbyá-Guarani film Canuto's Transformation (A Transformação de Canuto), followed by a panel discussion and audience talkback.
Created in, with, and by the Mbyá-Guarani community alongside the renowned Indigenous media collective Video nas Aldeias, the film has earned international awards and critical acclaim worldwide for its rich storytelling and collaborative approach.
Made in collaboration with filmmakers and scriptwriters Ariel Ortega, Patricia Ferreira, and Ernesto de Carvalho, the film offers a rare look into Indigenous cinema and community-led storytelling.
Following the screening, guest curator and filmmaker Fernanda Faya will join NYU faculty members Faye Ginsburg, Pegi Vail, and Bob Stam for a multidisciplinary conversation. The discussion will explore the creative process, the unique collaborative approach of Video nas Aldeias, and the central themes raised by the film.
