About this Event
This in-person panel is for professionals interested in Himalayan resilience and networking.
A Fragile Himalaya: Disaster, Adaptation, and the Challenge of Rebuilding examines how retreating glaciers, unstable slopes, changing rivers, floods, and landslides are reshaping landscapes and lives across the Third Pole—from mountain villages to the nearly two billion people who depend on Himalayan rivers downstream. Using Nepal as its immediate point of departure, the discussion asks how governments and communities must rethink where, what, and how to rebuild amid changing risks. It brings together mountain science, community experience, human rights, and adaptation to explore infrastructure, livelihoods, mobility, cultural and sacred connections, and the role of local knowledge in shaping a more resilient Himalayan future.
