About the Films:
You are on Indian Land (1969) "The [film records] the measures taken by the Mohawks of the Akwesasne-St. Regis Reservation to protest violation of a 1794 treaty guaranteeing them free passage between the U. S. and Canada. When government officials imposed a $1 toll to cross the international bridge linking the two countries, the Mohawks braved blustery winter weather to block traffic on the highway leading to the overpass. Cameras chronicle, in cinema verité style, the ensuing confrontations with police and the arrest of Mohawk leaders." [dir. Mike Mitchell] Runtime: 37m.
The Owl Who Married a Goose (1975) "Based on an [Inuit] legend on a theme of nature, this imaginary tale done in animated style unfolds with subtle humor the interaction between an owl and a goose and the owl's attempts to follow the goose's lifestyle. The only sounds used are actual [Inuit] voices imitating the geese and owl noises." [dir. Caroline Leaf] Runtime: 8m.
Wind, Grass, Song: The Voice of Our Grandmothers (1989) "Seven elderly Oklahoma women - Native American, African-American and white - recount the rigors of their lives on the Great Plains, especially during the dust-bowl days of the 1930's. Based on interviews with Oklahoma women from ages 85 to 101, the film combines the stories of the women's lives with a poetic vision of the land. " [dir. Jana Birchum and Toni Breitling] Runtime: 20m.
The Cycle (1971) “A young boy sees an attractive bicycle that has been parked in Central Park. The boy ‘borrows’ the bicycle and has a series of adventures that eventually return the bike to its starting place.” [dir. Chris Spotted Eagle Corpus] Runtime: 10m.
