Some people leave an impression. KDawn left an entire universe of art, music, laughter, and people who are still trying to imagine a world without her.An extraordinary artist, musician, and endlessly creative mind, KDawn had a gift for seeing the world a little differently and making everyone around her feel like they belonged in it. She was equal parts candor, wit, wisdom, and mischief. She loved making art, playing music, a good disco dance party, her beloved kitty, and the friends she collected and cherished along the way. And if she gave you a nickname, you knew you were one of her people.
Her soundtrack was a glorious mix of Everything But the Girl, New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Smiths, The B-52's, Talking Heads, Blondie, Joy Division, The Psychedelic Furs, Echo & the Bunnymen, Cocteau Twins, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Massive Attack, Portishead, The Sisters of Mercy, The Clash, The Ramones, The Replacements, and the irresistible dance-floor energy of Madonna, Prince, and the underground clubs of the '80s and '90s.
Whether it was post-punk, new wave, alternative, or disco, KDawn's taste in music was impeccable, her enthusiasm for a dance party was practically a public service, and her creative mind never once asked permission to be extraordinary. Whether she was making amazing art, experimenting with a keyboard or guitar, or simply finding another reason to bring her favorite people together, she did it with a style entirely her own.
Her sudden passing has left so many of us stunned and heartbroken, but also incredibly grateful to have been part of her wonderfully unconventional world.
Please join us as we celebrate KDawn the way she would have wanted: surrounded by friends, art, music, stories, laughter, and, of course, a little dancing beneath the mirrorball.
Bring your memories, your favorite KDawn stories, and your dancing shoes. Let's fill the room with everything she loved.
Keep shining, Miss Thing. 🪩
