Saludos everyone, the time is coming for another corn husking party! It is hard to believe this will be the 4th year we will have gathered to husk corn, eat together and be in community. My main corn field this year ran into many problems and sadly little to no corn will be coming from it. Many lessons to learn. Thankfully there is still Six Nations Blue and Blue Clarage corn left to use in my tortillas and hominy grits and this opens the opportunity to husk some of the Wapsie Valley corn grown by one of the Route 9 Cooperative members in Carrollton. This will be the start of a new line of earth tone, yellow corn tortillas, and a continued and welcomed lesson in community support, not just in the husking but also the growing of corn to transform into nourishing food.
Come participate in the husking as we unveil the various tones of yellows and reds. We will start at 11 am and go until around 5 pm and it will be at the same location in Coventry (just south of Akron, THE EVENT MAP DOES NOT SHOW THE CORRECT ADDRESS). If you need the address, please send me a message. We will have seating but if you have a camping chair, the more the merrier. There will be various corn foods for eating, so come hungry and leave with a full heart and belly! Hope to see you there.
