About this Event

2nd Fridays is a series that builds community, where artists can take risks in a supportive environment and where we strip the stuffiness out of the concert hall and turn it into the city's most interesting living room.

Set 1: Cale Fladager’s Hypogeum
Cale Fladager’s Hypogeum is an improvising ensemble consisting of Cale Fladager (Harmonica), Harmeet Kaur Virdee (Bass), Lauchlin Wood (Tenor Saxophone), Jack Stockhill (Drums), and Aidan Miller (Drums). Combining unique approaches to improvising frameworks with raw musical energy drawn from the aesthetic lineage of European free improvisers, Cale Fladager’s Hypogeum perform intense, violent, emotional, and deeply meditative free improvisations meant to rip both audience and performer out of their conscious experience and embed them into an equally beautiful and grotesque abstraction.

Set 2: Jen Lo
Originally from Macau, China, Jen Lo is a classically trained jazz pianist, composer, and educator. Recently graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano Performance (2021), she has studied with lots of great Canadian jazz pianists such as David Restivo, Noam Lemish, Mark Eisenman and David Braid.
Being an active member of the Toronto jazz community, you can find her performing in many different jazz venues regularly such as Jazz Bistro, the Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, Poetry Jazz Cafe, the Emmet Ray, etc. She has also performed in numerous music festivals including the TUJF, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Highland Music Festival, and more.

Set 3: Dun-Dundasa 80

Craig Dunsmuir is a record-store/bookstore buyer and sales clerk, amateur musician and selector who lives in Toronto. He has been a guitarist with and 'riff referee' of/composer for Dun-Dun Band since 2016, and his twenty-year-old duo project with Sandro Perri, Glissandro 70, is set to finally release its sophomore album, G70 2: Bones of Dundasa, on Constellation in May 2026.For April 2026's Second Friday, Dunsmuir (on electric guitar and Roland Handsonic) has put together a quartet (which he has billed Dun-Dundasa 80) to perform material from both his solo Kanada 70 repertoire as well as re-arrangements of Glissandro 70 tunes from the forthcoming G70 2: joining him will be Dun-Dun Band members Josh Cole on electric bass and Mike Smith on keyboards and electronics, alongside Nick Storring (who contributed the album artwork to both of Dun-Dun's Pita Parka LPs) on cello and electronics.
