Join Dallas Art Therapy for the 2nd Annual Anita Mester Symposium: Art, Community, and Connection. A day exploring how art making, storytelling, and shared creative experiences bring us together.Meets the requirements for 4 continuing education hours under Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council (BHEC) rules. Dallas Art Therapy is a charitable/nonprofit organization devoted to mental health, satisfying the approved provider criteria outlined in 22 TAC §882.50

Teresa Jackson, PsyD, ATR-BC, our keynote speaker, is a licensed psychologist, board-certified art therapist, artist, and Certified Brainspotting Practitioner with more than 30 years of mental health experience. She serves on the City of Dallas’s Arts and Culture Advisory Commission, bringing together her commitment to the arts, mental wellness, and community.
Byron Stamps, comedian and creator of Truth in Comedy, brings personal storytelling, stand-up comedy, and visual art together in a shared experience. He will share the story behind Truth in Comedy and its youth program, TIC Jr., developed in partnership with Dallas Art Therapy.
The day includes
• Teresa Jackson’s keynote and related guided art making
• Byron Stamps’s introduction to Truth in Comedy and TIC Jr.
• Two youth stories paired with two comedian responses
• Response art making and facilitated discussion
• Lunch, networking, and opportunities for connection
Learning objectives for 4 CEU hours:
By the end of the symposium, participants will be able to:
Describe two ways art making and personal storytelling can support self-expression, empathy, and community connection.
Identify three practices that support emotional safety, participant choice, and respectful witnessing during creative experiences.
Demonstrate a response art activity that encourages reflection on a shared story.
Clinicians, students, artists, and community members are welcome. No art experience is needed.
