8. Sep26 Howe Sound Regatta (1st to finish/2nd Div-0)

10. Oct17 VARC Closer (KYC)*
11. Nov13 VARC Dinner ($75 RVYC)
*Next Event
————————————————-
ex VARC-DISTANCE SERIES 2026,
1. Southern Straits
2. Halibut Bank
3. Round Bowen
4. English Bay Scramble (EBS)
5. Salish Sea
6. Fraser River Light Ship (FRLS)
The VARC-DISTANCE SERIES was the above six regattas, which are perfect for Strum. Only one (Straits) is an over night race, another is a 3 day adventure race (Salish) where the other 4 (Halibut, Bowen, EBS & the FRLS) races allow crew to have breakfast & dinner at home. These regattas require less than an hour of motoring to/from the start/finish lines. We target 10 crew for all but the Salish Sea Race, which is limited to 8 crew for the 8 berths on Strum. Strum will register when target crew numbers are confirmed.
-
ex VARC-REGATTA SERIES 2026
1. VARC Opener
2. Summer Regatta
3. Howe Sound Regatta (HSR)
4. VARC Closer
THE VARC-REGATTA SERIES was the above four regattas, which are new events for Strum in 2026 as she was never interested in the previous round-the-can racing format, but will come out for any VARC distance race. New for VARC in 2026, is these events will be sailed as a single day, one race distance course for Div-0 (& 1?) so these divisions can compete in all events for the new Sping/Summer/a winter Series format (vs previous Regatta & Distance Series). All these events are local, so crew can have breakfast & dinner at home. All regattas require less than an hour motoring to/from the start/finish line, with an ETA back at RVYC Jericho shortly after the typical 4pm time limit. We target 10 crew for all Regatta events, with registration following 10 confirmed crew.

Organizers (Tom Sitar/Jim Allen),
“2026 will be the 6th Annual Salish Sea Regatta, but the first time scored as a VARC event (thanks to Strum skipper as Div-0 Rep). A unique multi-stage sailing race delivering three days of competitive sailing covering 85 nm of the Salish Sea, combined with fun social dock activities with your fellow racers. Here's a video from the 2025 race. RVYC invites you to be our guest, racing in some of the best venues the Salish Sea has to offer and experience the hospitality of two of our prized outstations. Members and non-members welcome. Enjoy some of the finest late-summer/early-fall sailing in B.C.’s south coast, combined with camaraderie and fun. (Rumour has it the always-entertaining, informal, laser match-racing in Silva Bay may take place once again).”
STRUM, crew capped at 8 due to sleeping berths. $70 crew share covered 3 days of meals at sea (Dietary requirements needed 1 week prior). +$30 Fri Garden Bay buffet. I bottle rum donation to Strum please. Skipper provides mix, ice, rum/coffee cups, sleeping bags, water bottles so please don’t bring these.

HSR WVYC UPDATE
WVYC WEBSITE,
“Join us for WVYC's premier fall sailing event. WVYC will hold two separate regattas: the original VARC Howe Sound Regatta and a One Design Regatta. The Howe Sound Regatta will host two days of distance racing and the One Design regatta will host two days of round the cans. Saturday evening post racing we invite you all to come back to the West Vancouver Yacht Club for an evening of entertainment. The evening kicks off at 6pm.”
WVYC Aug30,
“Yes (there will be a VARC ORC DIV-0 long-course)! Welcome to the 2026 Howe Sound Race! The 2026 Howe Sound Race will take place on Saturday, September 26, with one (Div-0+1) distance race in the vicinity of Howe Sound, English Bay and the Strait of Georgia. The first warning signal is scheduled for 0955 hrs. What’s new this year? The event returns with a one-day, one-race distance format, featuring a longer course for the ORC divisions (Div 1 & 2) and a slightly shorter course for the PHRF divisions (Div 3-7). Courses will be selected by the Race Committee based on conditions on the day. An early bird registration fee of $65.0 is available until September 10, 2026. The registration fee will be $75.0 thereafter, with registration closing on Thursday, September 24.
Following racing, competitors are invited back to the WVYC Clubhouse at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and prizes (done at 7pm). Please confirm the number of people from your boat attending dinner as part of the registration process. Temporary moorage may be provided upon request, subject to availability.
Please refer to the Event Rules and other documents posted on Clubspot for full event details.
WVYC Sep20 email,
“Hi Randy, I'm reaching out because I see that you have requested temporary moorage for next weekends Howe Sound Race. Can you please confirm if you only require moorage for the night of Friday, September 25th or if you will also need the Saturday night after the race? I see you've noted requiring a deep (12.0’) water slip. At the moment, I only have one spot available that can accommodate your LOA, however, I am not sure if it will be deep enough. I have spoken with our Facilities Manager and he mentioned that at a zero tide, a previous sailboat with a 10' draft would be in the mud in this slip. The lowest tide on the 25th and 26th appears to be around 6', so I'm not sure if you'll be comfortable with that. Please let me know how you would like to proceed and If anything else opens up, I will let you know.”
WVYC Sep20 email
“Hi Randy, Thanks for reaching out, and for letting us (Merlin) raft next to STRUM during the Salish Sea/Tugboat Island! To confirm, ORC 0 will go to Halibut Bank. We didn't specify the course as we’re still looking at the forecast and considering options for the other fleets, particularly PHRF, but that doesn’t affect what we’ve already discussed for ORC 0. Thanks again for your support!
Nataly (WVYC Fleet Captain”
