Please join us for the 2026 Huber Debates at the University of Vermont. This year, we are pleased to announce we will host both a Social Justice Debate (SJD) on the 2026-2027 topic on Friday, November 6 AND a separate British Parliamentary format debate on Saturday, November 7-Sunday, November 8. You are welcome, but not required, to attend both events. Registration will be separate for each event. The SJD event will feature 3-4 rounds of in-round debates (depending on number of registrants) and a final novice and open debate judged by topic experts on Friday, November 6. The topic for this event is as follows:
• RESOLVED: When the pursuit of food justice requires a choice between competing approaches, food sovereignty should take priority over an individual right to adequate food.
The BP tournament will feature 5 rounds of preliminary debates and an appropriate number of elimination rounds for the number of teams in the British Parliamentary format. There will be one pre-released motion for this tournament. All other rounds will be extemporaneous.
Please visit the Huber Debates event page for the most up to date information on the event.
REGISTRATION PROCESS & FEES
SJD Event: Fees are $25 per person attending (including participants, judges, and observers). Payment method TBA. We have limited space on Friday, and we are limiting registration to 20 teams. If there is a lot of demand for the tournament, we will work toward opening up more space if possible.
The SJD registration will be initially limited to three teams per institution due to limited space availability.
Please pre-register for the SJD event here.
BP Event: Fees $75 per person attending (including participants, judges, and observers). Payment method to be announced.
If the pre-registration cap is not met by September 20, we will open up additional registration spots to teams who request additional slots. Final registration with team names will be due November 1.
Final BP tournament registration is due by November 4.
Please pre-register for the BP tournament here.
