From StartUp to ScaleUp: three architects share lessons on starting a small practice, winning work and building lasting client relationships
About this Event

Starting an architectural practice takes more than good design. Where does the work come from, how do you turn early opportunities into lasting client relationships, and what drives the decision to grow?
This event brings together three architects at different stages of the small practice journey—from recently established founder to experienced employer—to share their experiences, challenges and lessons learnt. The discussion will explore finding first clients, building work through personal networks, referrals and collaborations, and moving into new sectors.
With an emphasis on practical experience, speakers will reflect on key decisions, what they would do differently and how they balance building a pipeline of work with delivering projects.
• Who it’s for: Architects considering starting their own practice, those in the early years of running one, and small practice owners looking to grow.
• What you’ll experience: An open discussion about finding first clients, building a reputation and deciding when and how to scale.
• What you’ll gain: Insights into winning work through networks, referrals, collaborations and other routes, and developing opportunities into sustainable client relationships.
• What you’ll take away: Practical lessons to inform your next steps, strengthen your pipeline of work and balance business development with project delivery.
Speakers:
Carlos Bocanegra, Bocanegra Architecture
Jack Carter, Carter Gregson Gray
Jo Edwards, Edwards Rensen Architects.
Chair: Guy Shackle, North London Architects Group.
