About this Event
The film follows Edison Marynathan, an environmentalist travelling through the arid, heavily militarised northern coast. It chronicles the everyday struggles of farming and fishing communities facing intense heatwaves, unpredictable rainfall, and failing marine ecosystems. Thayakam explores how the scars of a 26-year independence war intersect directly with an escalating climate crisis. It questions whether a green transition can bring genuine climate justice to a region still locked out of primary policy decisions and suffering from historical, systemic marginalisation.
The screening (76 min, Tamil and English) will be followed by a short break and a discussion in English between the director அமித்தா அருட்பிரகாசம் (Amita Arudpragasam) and moderator ஷாமினி வரதராஜா (Sharmini Varatharajah). After the conversation, we will open the space for questions.
