The Wānaka Leadership Academy is an eight-week programme for people who are already leading teams, have recently stepped into management or are ready to take the next step in their career. It’s designed to give emerging and middle managers the practical skills, confidence and perspective they need to become better leaders, while building connections with other professionals across the Upper Clutha.
The outcome of this course will provide several key benefits to businesses:
- Skill Development
- Increased Productivity
- Innovation and Creativity
- Employee Satisfaction and Retention
- Adaptability to Market Changes
- Enhanced Reputation
- Strategic Thinking and Planning
We’ve also brought together an experienced group of leaders from across Wānaka, Otago and Southland to share their knowledge and experience, including:
- Lynley Lischner, Aspiring Law
- Dougal McGowan, Southern Football
- Richard Roberts, former Dunedin Airport CEO
- Sarah Godfrey, Drive Culture
- Jason Tibble, CEO, Gallaway Cook Allan
- Emma Kenny, Drive Accounting
- Monique Kelly, Wao
- Ben Schepp and Catherine Syme, Toastmasters
- Jodie Stuart and Philly Powell, Wānaka Business Chamber
The Academy is about more than learning new leadership skills. It’s about hearing how other people approach leadership, sharing experiences, and building relationships with people from different businesses and industries around the Upper Clutha.
Past participants have said:
“It’s given me more confidence to lead a team rather than just being part of a team.”
“I didn’t realise how much people skills you need to be a leader. It’s the people side that really matters.”
“One of the big takeaways was seeing that, even though we’re in different industries, we face many of the same problems.”
“It’s been such a good social experience. It’s been really enjoyable learning alongside other people.”
For employers: The Academy is also a practical way to invest in someone in your team who is showing leadership potential. Developing your emerging leaders can help build capability within your business, support staff retention, and give people the skills they need as their responsibilities grow.
The Wānaka Leadership Academy is registered with the Management Capability Development Fund. You may be eligible for funding support. Contact your Growth Advisor by enquiring at [email protected] and find out more by visiting www.regionalbusinesspartners.co.nz.
