Join Mayor John Glover, MP Joseph Mooney, with other political candidates present, to hear what impacts "fast track" housing developments will have on our district.
Arrowtown and the wider Wakatipu Basin are facing a wave of Fast-track housing proposals on land outside the council’s designated Spatial Plan. Ridgeburn is just one of those proposals. More are waiting in the wings, and some that you may not have heard of yet.
Queenstown Lakes has a Spatial Plan, developed with community input, that defines the boundary to where the Basin grows over the next 30 years. This Plan keeps housing close to infrastructure, jobs, schools and public transport. This government’s Fast-track Approvals Act allows large scale housing developments to skirt this plan, to create out of zone development. These proposals could have a huge impact on our area, and once approved through Fast-track, the ability to appeal is very limited.
We support housing where it has been properly planned for. Our concern is what happens when that plan can be bypassed.
We think it’s important the community hears about these proposals, including those that many people haven’t heard about, and understand what they could mean for the Basin. Come along to a community meeting to find out what’s happening, what’s at stake, and what we can do about it together.
