About this Event
In the morning, you will be introduced to the basics of paper weaving. Artist/instructor Tricia Rawlins will guide you through the basics of woven-paper construction — from preparing your paper, to the step-by-step process of weaving a simple herringbone pattern.
After lunch, under Tricia’s supportive gaze, you will have the opportunity to work more independently, using your newly-found skills to further explore pattern and colour in woven washi creations of your own design.
All paper and other supplies will be provided.
Participants are asked to bring the following:
- notebook and pen
- clear ruler with 1/4” markings
- tweezers
- hat pin — or another similar big needle
- your lunch!
About Tricia Rawlins:
Tricia studied Art and Art History at the University of Toronto concurrently with Sheridan College. Now based in Burlington, Ontario, she combines site-specific monoprints with Japanese paper to create dynamic woven paper art pieces. When not in her studio you can find Tricia in the outdoors, gardening, foraging for natural dye ingredients.
