Info: How does an artistic concept enter the process of professional film production?
We will begin with pre-production, looking at how artists and film crews can work together before a shoot begins.
At the heart of this session is the question of translation: how can an artist’s concepts, writing and visual references be developed into production materials that a professional crew can understand and work with?
We will explore how both sides can better understand one another and establish a clear, effective basis for collaboration.

Info: What actually happens between “I want to make this” and arriving on set?
When should a team be assembled? At what point do different crew members come on board? When should decisions around budget, location, equipment and the shooting plan be made?
By mapping the process together, artists can gain a clearer understanding of what needs to happen next, while filmmakers can better understand where and when meaningful collaboration with an artist begins.

This is not only a workshop, but an opportunity for artists, producers, directors of photography, photographers, directors and other moving-image practitioners to meet and learn more about one another’s ways of working.
