Word of Mouth Cincinnati hosts two Ohio Poetry icons this month in our feature spots: John Burroughs & Kari Gunter-Seymour. And, as always, they will be joined by the voices from our always dynamic open mic, preceding and following their feature presentations. Here's details about John and Kari: JOHN BURROUGHS of Cleveland was recently named Lifetime Beat Poet Laureate by the National Beat Poetry Foundation. He's the author of "The Wrest of the Worthwhile," "Rattle and Numb," and myriad poetry chapbooks. A regional ambassador for the Ohio Poetry Association and the founding editor of Crisis Chronicles Press, Burroughs has also served as Beat Poet Laureate for Ohio (2019-21) and the United States (2022-23). You may find him at crisischronicles.com.
KARI GUNTER-SEYMOUR is the immediate past Poet Laureate of Ohio and recipient of an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship, IPPY Bronze Award, NYC Big Book Award, a National Federation of Press Women Award and Feathered Quill Award. She is the executive director of the Women of Appalachia Project and editor of its anthology series, Women Speak, finalist for the Next Generation Indie Book Award. Gunter-Seymour is a retired instructor in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Her work has been featured in a variety of journals and publications including "World Literature Today," "American Book Review," "Rattle," "Poem-a-Day," Katie Couric’s "Wake Up Call" and "The New York Times".
