About this Event
Welcome to the Women+ networking event, hosted by Indianapolis Press Club Foundation!
The goal of this recurring event is to create a networking, skill building and socializing community designed to lift up women and non-binary journalists in Indianapolis. We celebrate successes and help each other through times of struggle. It is open to any woman, female identifying or non-binary person working in journalism.
This time we've organized what we're calling Skillsgiving. We've lined up five experts to give mini TED talks on a variety of specific skills. You'll hear from:
- Jenna Watson, art director for Mirror Indy and FPI News, on getting people comfortable with having their photos taken
- Colleen Steffen, executive editor of The Statehouse File, on social media management.
- Kayla Dwyer, statehouse reporter at the IndyStar, on how to do vertical videos
- Kristine Phillips, investigative reporter at the IndyStar, on how to approach tough interviews
- Kaitlin Lange, news director at the IndyStar, on editing skills/moving from reporting to editing
We'll be in the Library room of Industrious at the Stutz. Use the doors for Industrious on Capitol Avenue. Someone will be there to direct you to the room. Feel free to grab food from a nearby place, bring something with you or get something delivered during the event.
Agenda:

FAQS:
How often does IPCF host these events?
Quarterly.
Are they in the same location every time?
No. We like moving around the city. If you know of a place willing to work with nonprofits to host events, let us know!
Can journalism students come?
Yes!
Can editors/managers come?
Yes!
Can people who don't work in journalism come?
These gatherings are designed specifically for women+ in journalism to connect, learn, and grow together. To maintain the event’s focus, we kindly ask that those in non-journalism roles refrain from registering. Instead, we encourage you to build relationships with local journalists in other ways like emails and coffee meetups.
Is the topic/theme the same every time?
No — we switch it up every time. If you have suggestions for something you'd like to see covered, let us know!
Can I give feedback and share ideas?
Absolutely! We share a feedback form after each event so you can tell us your thoughts and what you want to see in future events. Don’t want to wait? Email us at [email protected].
