Woman to Woman is the YWCA’s key event dedicated to raising awareness around the realities and barriers survivors face surrounding domestic and sexual abuse, held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Woman to Woman brings community members together to confront the difficult truths of abuse, recognize warning signs, and explore how each of us can become more vigilant, informed, and supportive of those experiencing violence. All proceeds from the event will benefit YWCA of Northwest Ohio, a nonprofit organization committed to providing safe shelter, emergency support, advocacy, and healing resources for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.
By attending, guests directly contribute to ensuring that no individual or family has to face abuse without access to support and a path to a new beginning.
As part of her commitment, Ms. Brown has worked to help pass a variety of legislative solutions for domestic violence. One of her most important projects was to lobby on behalf of the Violence Against Women Act. With a potential slashing of its federal allocation to domestic violence services, Denise Brown testified to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee for increased funding. After her testimony, that portion of the bill's funding was increased from eighteen million to thirty-two million dollars.
“Domestic violence is not always easy to see from the outside, and often those experiencing it may not recognize the full scope of what is happening to them,” said Rachael Gardner, YWCA Chief Program Officer.
Woman to Woman is a chance to listen, learn, and have the conversations that can ultimately save lives.
Denise Brown has made a life-long commitment to educate the public as well as improve the quality of living for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, She is determined to banish the darkness and end the silence.
Woman to Woman will encourage attendees to move beyond awareness and consider the role they can play in creating a community where survivors are believed, supported, and connected to help. By learning how to recognize abuse, respond with compassion, and connect individuals to resources, community members can become part of a collective effort to prevent violence and create pathways to safety.
