Witnessing the Iberian Lynx is a two-day workshop that reflects on the image and its potency in relation to others. The title is a comment on Following the White Tiger, an exhibition by the artist João Maria Gusmão, curated by Post Brothers, from which the workshop draws part of its inspiration.
How does the image engage with reality in the analogue and the digital? What sets them apart, and what binds them together? What are the poetics of noise and the deprogramming of art? How does materiality condition an artistic process?
These questions will be posed alongside the participants, considering the hybridisation of media and the importance of experimentation as a means of expression. Drawing, analogue photography and digital imagery will have their features combined to generate reflection through collective action. What image is necessary in an age of visual saturation?
The Iberian lynx is an endangered species with keen and unique vision. What about us?
First day | Saturday, 10 October, 12–15: Introduction and presentation, theoretical input on image references, artists and techniques, followed by exercises in kinetic drawing and analogue photography, with digital image as homework.
Second day | Saturday, 17 October, 12–14: Brief presentation and recap, preparation of analogue and digital materials, presentation to the public, followed by reflection and discussion.
