About this Event
How can creatively comparing early printed poetry and contemporary small press poetry publications help us to think about the continuities and synergies between these two historical print movements?
In this two-hour workshop, learn about some of the processes that Caxton would have used when printing his incunabula (early printed books), exploring these through zine-making. We will study examples of Caxton’s printed works, looking at their design and how they would have been printed in the fifteenth century. We will then look at examples of contemporary small press poetry publications, comparing these with Caxton’s earlier work. Finally, we will use scissors and glue to create our own zine response to these two distinct moments in print history. If you have ever wanted to get hands on with comparing medieval and contemporary print, then this workshop is for you!
Run by Senate House's Printer in Residence Becca Drake and designed for students, this workshop provides a relaxed space to discover and create your own zines.
