Wild Crafternoon: Woodland Basket Weaving with PetraStep away from the everyday and spend four slow, creative hours beneath the trees, learning the traditional craft of basket weaving in our beautiful woodland at Haylands Farm.
With over 10 years’ weaving experience, Petra will guide you through the process of creating your own frame basket — one of the oldest styles of basket making. You’ll learn the techniques step by step, enjoying the rhythm and repetition of weaving and leaving at the end of the session with a beautiful, functional basket made by your own hands.
Petra loves to work with natural and foraged materials wherever possible, keeping her craft rooted in nature and as sustainable as she can. She particularly loves the tactile quality of weaving, the patterns that emerge as you work and the sense of satisfaction that comes from creating something slowly and thoughtfully.
But this is more than a craft workshop.
Throughout the four hours, we’ll create space for you to slow down and enjoy being in the woodland. We’ll gather around the campfire, share a warming homemade soup with bread for lunch and keep you topped up with hot drinks and marshmallows as you weave.
There will be moments of gentle mindfulness, time to chat and connect with others if you wish, and, weather permitting, the opportunity to retreat to a hammock for a little rest beneath the trees.
