Borneo, the world’s third largest island, is well known for its plant and animal biodiversity. It is home to more than 620 bird species, including 60 endemic species of birds found nowhere else in the world. British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace explored Southeast Asia extensively in the mid-1800s. This is where he, independently from Charles Darwin, formulated the theory of evolution by natural selection.Inspired by both Wallace and Darwin and their scientific discoveries, Dr. Kamal Islam—Professor Emeritus of Ornithology at Ball State University and a member of our own Audubon board—travelled to Borneo in May 2025 to explore its biodiversity and evolutionary history.
Please join us at our November program meeting for Kamal’s presentation on his journey to see unique birds, such as hornbills and broadbills, primates (including orangutan), the world’s largest flower, and many more natural wonders!
The program will start at 7 p.m. at Ball State’s Nature Lab, located at 2500 W. University Ave. in Muncie. Parking is available on the south side of the building and is free after 5 p.m. The building is wheelchair-accessible. Or, to watch by Zoom, please register in advance, below. After registering, you’ll receive confirmation and details about joining the meeting.
Zoom registration link can be found on our website.
