As the impacts of climate change intensify, what role can trees play in creating a healthier, more resilient future? In this public lecture, renowned British pioneers in tree planting and sustainability, Jo Bradwell and Geraint Richards, will explore the different ways that forests, urban forestry and planting can shape the world of tomorrow.
Drawing on extensive experience in forestry, conservation and landscape management, Bradwell and Richards will explore the opportunities and challenges facing trees today. From Bradwell's journey from physician to forester to Richards' work managing trees and forests across Britain, they offer insights into the stewardship of forests and landscapes for the future.
Speaker Bios:
Professor Arthur (Jo) Bradwell MBChB, DSc, FRCPath, FRCP, FICFor (Hon)
Dr. Bradwell is owner and director of Norbury Park and Forestry Commission Commissioner. He has been instrumental in setting up the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR), increasing woodland cover and transforming the farmland from crops to mob grazing with cattle. Winner of the 2018 RFS Sylva trophy and the 2018 Peter Savill award. Prior to his career in forestry, Bradwell worked as a physician for 30 years.
Geraint Richard MVO OBE, FICFor
Richards is the Head Forester to His Majesty The King. For nearly 30 years he was responsible for the management of the trees, woodlands and forests across the Duchy of Cornwall’s extensive landholding (when His Majesty was Duke of Cornwall) and now is involved with the Duchy of Lancaster and other estates associated with His Majesty The King. He was made a Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) in 2017 and, in 2019, he was awarded the Royal Forestry Society’s Gold Medal for distinguished services to forestry. Richards is also involved with a wide range of tree-related organizations and initiatives, both nationally and internationally, including the Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF).
