FLASH CONNECT | November: The Gut–Hormone Connection: Why Gut Health Matters More in Perimenopause & Menopause

Sol's monthly event connecting health professionals with the community. Free to attend.

About this session

As oestrogen levels fluctuate and decline around menopause and perimenopause, this can influence the gut microbiome and the gut barrier. At the same time, our gut bacteria play an important role in how oestrogen is metabolised and recycled. This creates a two-way relationship between our hormones and our gut.

In this talk, Functional Medicine Health Coach Jo Brownlow will explore this gut–hormone connection, including emerging research, the microbiome and the estrobolome. She'll also look at how these changes may connect with common midlife concerns including bloating, digestive changes, inflammation, weight, mood and energy.

You'll leave with a clearer understanding of how your gut and hormones influence one another, what may be contributing to digestive and metabolic changes during perimenopause and menopause, and practical tools to support your microbiome, gut barrier, digestion and overall health.

About the Expert

Jo Brownlow is a Functional Medicine Health Coach and Certified Personal Trainer based in Singapore. She works with women to understand what may be driving persistent symptoms such as digestive issues, fatigue, hormonal changes, poor sleep, stress and changes in weight or metabolism. Rather than looking at symptoms in isolation, Jo uses a functional medicine approach to piece together health history, lifestyle, nutrition and blood work, with further testing such as comprehensive gut and metabolic testing where appropriate. Her focus is on helping clients better understand their bodies and giving them practical, personalised strategies to support their health and feel good again.
